For
several reasons, counter-cultists have focused on three large American new
religious movements born in the nineteenth century: the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints, popularly known as the Mormon Church; Jehovah’s Witnesses;
and Christian Science.
Although often based on quite preposterous arguments, the criticism has been paradoxically helpful, since it has encouraged academic scholars to devote some serious studies to the relationships between these movements and Freemasonry.
